The transition from May to June signifies the return of summer and with more sun comes bigger, riper and better yields from crops here at home as well as abroad.

It also means that we lose a few of our favourite spring time fruit and veg as we wave goodbye to the milder weather.

Done for the year as we head into June is the super healthy kale, sprouting broccoli, local savoy cabbage, local carrots and pumpkins, and these will be closely followed by all local root veg, blood oranges and quince. Although we are losing these great products, kale is being replaced by baby kale and some other baby salad leaves and we see baby veggies popping up to replace their larger counterparts from the Suffolk border.

Never fear though as there is still tons of great produce to put onto your menus and tables.

Our must haves for this time of year are:

  • Jersey Royal Potatoes
  • New crop bunched Spanish carrots
  • Outdoor local rhubarb
  • Spring pointed cabbage
  • Local asparagus
  • Local new spring cauliflower
  • New crop Globe artichokes
  • Fresh peas and broad beans (Spain/Italy) followed by English in the coming weeks
  • Local strawberries
  • Mixed heritage tomatoes
  • Local new crop salad leaves
  • English Watercress
  • Spring onions
  • Heritage coloured radishes

We can also look forward to the return of the classic British summer fruit selection, with local gooseberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and blueberries all starting to plump up and get juicy. We will also see pink gooseberries returning to our warehouse within the next week or so, as well as local tomatoes.

Mediterranean stone fruit favourites such as peaches, nectarines, cherries and apricots will all be making their way our shores as we see out May and Spanish melons will be following behind them as we enter June.

Seasonal changes but still available:

  • Beetroot – Red, candy, gold and white are all ending
  • Carrots – Regular, Chantaney and Rainbow
  • Parsnips, swede, leeks, celeriac, onions, Jerusalem artichokes and turnips
  • Heritage potatoes such as Ratte, Anya, Pink fir apple and Purple (violette)
  • Butternut squash and Sweet potatoes
  • Tenderstem broccoli
  • Local Bramley cooking apples
  • Chicory-Red and White

Most of which are still local and great value, however will be off soon so buy now!

Need to free up some time in the kitchen? Our prepared veg packs save you the early morning and afternoon prep and are all made and packaged in house from only the highest quality vegetables. All we ask is for 24 hours’ notice so we can make them for you and we can deliver, ready for service immediately. We can also supply you prepared salads and fruit salads, as well as orange and grapefruit segments so you can focus on your menu!

We are now stocking local frozen Artisan breads with a comprehensive list available, if you would like more information or samples please call our team.

We have teamed up with local growers, Nurtured In Norfolk, meaning that we can supply you with the highest quality edible flowers and shoots for your more creative dishes. A full list is available upon request and will be added to as we go through the summer and more light levels increase the stock.

Local cheese is all fully stocked as well, with Ferndale Farms Dapple and Smoked Dapple tempting our taste buds as well as our UK and imported cheese and deli items that we can get for you all year round!
